SATURDAY WORKING K9
​CIVILIAN GROUP CLASS

Class meets on our K9 Training Field every Saturday from 8-10am. The first hour we focus on obedience and K9-Handler relationship. The second hour we work on protection work and building/shaping drive. We offer 4 levels of classes so we can meet you and your K9 right where you are at. Come on out any Saturday you want to start, bring the items listed below, go to the Check-In area on the Field, sign a waiver and get started!

Prices

$40 Obedience and Protection (8-10am)
$20 Obedience only (8-9am)
(Must participate in Obedience to do Protection)

Field Rules:

  • Clean up after your dog!
  • Do not let your dog urinate or defecate on the obstacles!!!
  • NO dog-dog interactions: DO NOT let your dog go up to other dogs. Please keep dogs 6 feet apart!
  • NO moving up in classes unless approved by the instructor or Jim or Aleah.
  • Do not go pet other people's dogs. The dogs are at the field to work.
  • No parking in front of the surrounding businesses.
  • WATCH where you are walking! We are running multiple classes at the same time. We have witnessed people walking right through the middle of a protection scenario. Please be mindful of your surroundings!
  • Absolutely NO loose dogs allowed in cars. Your dog must have a secure place to go while not working. No loose dogs hanging out of car windows!

What to bring

  • Your Dog
  • Current vaccine records (first time visit)
  • 6 foot leash (leather or biothane preferred, nylon accepted. No retractable or bungee leashes)
  • Flat Collar 
  • Training Collar (appropriate size prong collar or chain slip collar- see recommended products page
  • Long Line (At least 15 ft for Jr Obedience, 30 ft for Intermediate Obedience AND Protection)

  • Harness (if participating in protection work)
  • $20-40 Cash (we don't have a card reader at the field)
  • Water for yourself, your dog and a chair for spectators
  • We use the neighboring businesses bathroom, but they are sometimes closed.
  • Training waiver if you filled it out ahead of time. We have them at the field also.

NEW PARKING ARRANGMENTS!!!!
PLEASE PARK ON THE FIELD. Come down the ramp located at the intersection of Iowa Ave and Citrus West. Park on the advanced field and pull in straight facing the green bushes between the field and the parking lot. Please be careful while pulling in AND while pulling out while on the field. Look carefully for dogs and handlers!
Please DO NOT park in Taber Industrial Center located at 595 Iowa Ave.

​Meet the I Heart K9 Working Dog Team

​Jim Erickson

​Jim teaches the Advanced Obedience and Protection Class as well as offering Private Lessons. He has been teaching the advanced class for over 30 years! He started working with Adlerhorst K9 over 27 years ago, and continues his passion with I Heart K9. Jim was a K9 Handler for 10 years with Riverside Sheriff Department, as well as the Lieutenant in charge of all of their K9's for the last few years of his LEO Career. His real life experience and wisdom in suspect apprehension, K9 deployment and record keeping is invaluable to us here and we are so glad to have him!

Randy Gulick

​Randy teaches the Intermediate Class. He has years of working dog experience and has taught people in many different environments. Randy brings skills and wisdom to I Heart K9 and is great at polishing up the skills you and your dog learn in beginning class in order to get you to the advanced field. 

Alex Aviles

​Alex teaches the Beginner Class and takes lots of hits for the Advanced group. He has years of experience working with all breeds. His skills range from companion dogs, pack work,  daycare, massage therapy and working dogs. When he isn't taking hits for us on Saturdays, you can catch him in Los Angeles County at own company Shepherds Den K9 Training.
